Equipment

  • medium saucepan For boiling pasta
  • colander For draining pasta
  • wooden spoon or spatula For stirring sauce
  • measuring cup For measuring milk

Ingredients

  • 1 box Kraft Mac & Cheese (Original)
  • 6 cups water (for boiling)
  • 4 tbsp butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup milk (whole or 2%)

Instructions

  • Bring 6 cups of water to a rolling boil in a medium saucepan. Add the macaroni from the box and stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Cook for 7–8 minutes, until tender but slightly firm.
  • Drain the cooked pasta in a colander without rinsing. Return the hot pasta to the saucepan.
  • Add 4 tablespoons butter and stir until completely melted. Pour in 1/4 cup milk and add the cheese powder packet. Stir continuously until the sauce is smooth and evenly coats the pasta.
  • If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of milk. If too thin, let it sit for 1–2 minutes to thicken. Adjust seasoning if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

Lightly salt the boiling water for better pasta flavor. Do not rinse the pasta after draining, as the starch helps the sauce cling. For extra creaminess, add 1 tablespoon cream cheese or Greek yogurt. If the sauce thickens too much, stir in a splash of milk when reheating. Serve immediately for the best texture.
