Equipment

  • oven
  • baking sheet
  • mixing bowls
  • knife and cutting board
  • grill or skillet
  • spatula or tongs

Ingredients

  • 3 large russet potatoes, cut into fries
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 lb flank steak
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 Roma tomatoes, diced
  • 1/2 sweet onion, finely diced
  • 1 jalapeño, minced (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 2 tbsp finely diced white onion
  • 1 small jalapeño, minced
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • salt, to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • pickled jalapeños (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Cut potatoes into fries and soak in cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess starch. Drain, pat dry, toss with olive oil, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Spread on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  • In a bowl, combine olive oil, lime juice, minced garlic, cilantro, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Coat flank steak in marinade and let rest 15–30 minutes.
  • Preheat grill or skillet to medium-high. Cook steak 4–6 minutes per side for medium-rare. Rest steak 5 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.
  • In a medium bowl, combine diced tomatoes, onion, jalapeño, cilantro, lime juice, and salt. Mix gently and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • Mash avocados in a bowl until creamy but slightly chunky. Stir in onion, jalapeño, lime juice, and salt. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  • Spread baked fries on a large serving platter. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over hot fries to melt. Top with sliced carne asada, pico de gallo, guacamole, and pickled jalapeños. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve immediately.

Notes

Try soaking potatoes for extra crispiness, marinating steak for maximum flavor, and preparing pico de gallo and guacamole ahead to save time. Adjust toppings and spice levels to taste. Bake or air-fry fries for a healthier version.
