Equipment

  • large mixing bowl
  • whisk
  • electric mixer or hand mixer
  • rubber spatula
  • serving dish or trifle dish
  • fine mesh sieve for cocoa dusting

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 package (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 2 tsp instant espresso powder
  • 2 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24–30 ladyfinger cookies
  • 3–4 ripe bananas, sliced
  • cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cold milk, sweetened condensed milk, and instant vanilla pudding mix. Chill the mixture for 5–10 minutes until it begins to thicken.
  • In another bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the chilled pudding mixture to create a light and fluffy cream filling.
  • Dissolve the instant espresso powder in hot water and stir in the coffee liqueur if using. Allow the mixture to cool slightly before dipping the ladyfingers.
  • Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the espresso mixture and arrange half of them in the bottom of a serving dish. Spread half of the banana cream over the ladyfingers and layer sliced bananas evenly on top.
  • Repeat with the remaining dipped ladyfingers, banana cream, and banana slices. Smooth the top layer evenly with a spatula.
  • Refrigerate the assembled dessert for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. Before serving, dust the top generously with cocoa powder, slice, and serve chilled.

Notes

Do not over-soak the ladyfingers—just a quick dip keeps the layers from becoming soggy. Use ripe but firm bananas for the best texture. Chilling overnight enhances flavor and structure. Coffee liqueur can be omitted for an alcohol-free version. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Freezing is not recommended because bananas may change texture.
