Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups cubed day-old Italian bread
  • 1 cup cooked ham, diced
  • 1 cup fresh apple, diced
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 2 tsp fresh chives, chopped (optional)
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9-inch baking dish with butter.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, chives, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  • In another bowl, combine bread, ham, apples, and cheese. Pour egg mixture over and stir gently to coat.
  • Transfer mixture to prepared baking dish and top with extra Cheddar cheese.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes until set and golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
  • Serve warm with optional garnishes like parsley or extra chives.

Notes

Use day-old bread for best texture. Assemble ahead and refrigerate overnight for convenience. Try variations like adding cinnamon for sweetness or vegetables for a vegetarian option. Avoid overbaking to keep the center soft and custardy.
