Equipment

  • skillet or grill
  • spatula
  • tongs
  • cutting board
  • knife

Ingredients

  • 2–3 beef patties (¼–½ lb each)
  • salt and black pepper, to taste
  • garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika (optional)
  • 2–3 slices cheese (cheddar, American, or choice)
  • 2 burger buns
  • lettuce leaves
  • sliced tomato
  • sliced onions
  • pickles
  • crispy bacon or sautéed mushrooms (optional)
  • ketchup
  • mustard
  • mayonnaise

Instructions

  • Season each beef patty generously with salt, pepper, and any optional spices. Let them sit for 5–10 minutes at room temperature while you prep your toppings.
  • Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook patties 3–4 minutes per side for medium, adjusting for thickness and desired doneness.
  • Place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking. Cover the skillet or close the grill lid to help the cheese melt evenly.
  • Lightly toast the burger buns in the skillet or oven for 1–2 minutes until golden brown. This adds texture and prevents sogginess.
  • Layer the cooked patties with melted cheese onto the bottom bun. Add your choice of toppings like lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. Spread condiments on the top bun and place it on the stacked patties. Serve immediately while hot and gooey.

Notes

Use high-quality ground beef with 15–20% fat for the juiciest patties. Avoid pressing down on the patties while cooking to retain moisture. Let patties rest 2–3 minutes before stacking. Toast buns lightly to prevent sogginess. Customize with bacon, sautéed mushrooms, jalapeños, or your favorite cheese variations.
