Equipment

  • mixing bowls
  • electric mixer
  • measuring cups and spoons
  • baking sheets
  • parchment paper or silicone baking mats
  • cookie scoop
  • wire cooling rack

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats to prevent sticking.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  • Gently stir in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  • Scoop dough into 1½ to 2 tablespoon portions, roll into balls, and place on prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden but centers still look slightly soft.
  • Let cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Do not overbake, as cookies continue cooking on the hot pan after removal. Use room temperature ingredients for best texture and measure flour correctly by spooning and leveling. For extra flavor, sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt before baking. Dough can be frozen for up to 3 months and baked straight from frozen with 1–2 additional minutes.
