Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips (plus extra for topping if desired)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13-inch pan with parchment and lightly grease.
  • Whisk melted butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Add eggs and vanilla, mixing until fully combined.
  • Sift in cocoa, flour, baking soda, and salt. Fold until just combined.
  • Stir in chocolate chips and spread batter evenly in pan.
  • Cream softened butter with brown and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Mix in egg and vanilla until fully incorporated.
  • Add flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir until combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips. Drop spoonfuls over brownie layer, leaving gaps to spread during baking.
  • Bake 25–32 minutes until cookie layer is lightly golden and toothpick in brownie layer is mostly clean.
  • Optional: Add extra chocolate chunks in the last 5 minutes of baking.
  • Cool in pan 10–15 minutes, then refrigerate 30–60 minutes for easier slicing.
  • Cut into squares or rectangles and serve.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for smoother batter. Avoid overmixing layers to maintain fudgy, chewy texture. Chill before cutting for cleaner slices. Customize with nuts, caramel drizzle, or different chocolate types.
