Equipment

  • mixing bowls
  • whisk
  • deep frying pan
  • slotted spoon
  • paper towels

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.667 cup milk or milk alternative
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups apples, peeled and diced
  • oil for frying
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp milk or apple juice
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. In another bowl, whisk milk, eggs, and vanilla. Gradually combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
  • Fold diced apples gently into the batter.
  • Heat oil in a deep pan to 175°C (350°F).
  • Drop spoonfuls of batter into hot oil, frying 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  • Drain fritters on paper towels and cool slightly.
  • Whisk powdered sugar, milk or apple juice, and vanilla to make glaze.
  • Drizzle glaze over warm fritters or dip for full coverage and serve immediately.

Notes

Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best texture. Pat oil-drained fritters dry to prevent greasiness. Mix wet and dry ingredients just before frying. Adjust glaze consistency with milk or powdered sugar. Serve warm for optimal flavor.
